Seeing our Addictions

“We must give up many things to which we are addicted, considering them to be good. Otherwise, courage will vanish, which should continually test itself. Greatness of soul will be lost, which can’t stand out unless it disdains as petty what the mob regards as most desirable.”
— Seneca, Moral Letters, 74.12b-13

Control your addictions or they will control you. Not sure where I heard that, but I like it. We have all faced addictions in the past, most of us have justified them. Some may even feel positive. Yet, you are not in control of your own destiny unless you are in control of yourself — and how can you be in control of yourself if you have relinquished your actions to your addictions.

Control your additions, give them up. It will hurt and it takes courage to stay focused, but in the end you maintain power over your self. That is when you will find freedom.
